ABSTRACT

The quality, productivity and competitivity conditions at the worldwide markets as well as the attendance of customer's needs are some of main factors for a technological modernization of industry. In order to attain this goals, the organizations search to improve your manufacturing systems applying modem production philosophies and, in consequence, reorganizing your control operations and factory administration systems.

In the modem manufacturing systems, the Just-in-Time (JIT) production philosophy has shown its benefits potencial. Whenever the JIT are implanted, the necessity for the production control practically disappears, establishing the kanban system as the main tool that substitutes these tasks.

However, the traditional kanban cards system has limitations. In this study, we pretend analyse the kanban system in a JIT environment and propose alternatives which incorporate several information technologies in order to minimize its limitations. After this, we suggest an implementation guide for an informatized kanban system (SKI), ending up with practical implementation descriptions of two SKI'S, showing the features and advantages of informatization of traditional card system.
